Hi there,
I have a Seagate ST5000DM000-1FK178-568 (SN: W4J1BDZW) with firmware CC49 (originally from a Seagate external drive) that is still detectable by SeaTools on Linux.
I had been copying about 2TB of data from it to another HDD when, after 3 hours, it suddenly stopped working. There was no electrical or physical shock involved.
The S.M.A.R.T. reports (checked via GSmartControl) show no errors, and the drive spins up normally without any unusual sounds.

I ran both the "Quick Test" and "Long Test" in SeaTools, and the drive passed without issues:
Current Problems:
1- Incorrect capacity (shows 602.93GB instead of the expected ~5TB).
2- Unable to format or mount the drive. From what I understand, there’s a known firmware issue affecting the 7200.11/7200.12 series, which can sometimes be fixed via a serial console connection and specific commands. However, I’m unsure if the ST5000DM000-1FK178-568 falls under these series.
I’m a software engineer and an experienced user, and I also have a CP2102 USB-to-UART TTL converter module. Could you help me repair my HDD?
Thank you in advance!
