Hy everyone. I have also a problem with my Maxtor D540x D080H4. I´ve searched a lot but only what I found was that a lot of others have the same problem with the firmware. The problem is a little bit old, but is there someone who can tell me (again and again) what I can do to repair the hdd by myself. The only way what i found was to buy a programm (Salvation). But mayby someone had found another way. I also don´t know how to flash the hdd or how to use the *.ldr part. Please, could someone help me

Of all older maxtor drives with fw problem - romulus is most stubborn.
So if you need data - the only real chance is with some expert.
If data is not so valuable - make an ashtray or something.

i have mhdd, but the programm say that there is no LBA support. And i have also found some loaders for my 80GB Maxtor. But I don´t know how to get the hdd flashed. In this case is it useful to change the PCB?

No, less more you can kill the drive at all.

I am sure you don't know how to "flash" this drive.
Please listen :
There is no one in the world who knows how to "flash" this drive.
and there is no expert who would want to "flash" this drive even if
it could be done - which it can't.
Once again, if you need the data, take it to an expert.

Ok, it is best to first define what we talking about.
What do you understand by "Flash a drive" ?
October 6th, 2006, 8:52
Ok. You´re right. I will flash the firmware from the HDD to get a working one. I couldn´t understand why Maxtor is unable to have a better support for the drives. Why does Salvation Data has a free Version for the Maxtor D541x. What the hell is the problem for Maxtor ???

Just in case you did not know, there is no such company as "Maxtor" anymore

Dear
marco0133, i think you did not understand the previous post right. Anyway is better to leave the drive "as is" and go to any good data recovery centre. If you need tha data of course.
When a seller in that case Maxtor or any of its dealers sell you a drive he is obliged to give you warranty. And to succeed they are supposed to offer as much they can, even may risk a bit. As any other drive Maxtor have heads, plates, electronics ...... and they all can show some deffects manufacturing in some cases or accidental. There are fourth thing that present in drive but you can't see it and this is software that "rule" the drive in a combination with other tree. And they are stick togather to work the drive as you see it. If any of all defect the drive stop to work. So the warranty suppose to cover all those defects. But the manufacturer can't suppose which one of them exactly is brocken. & what you did hold on drive, will you make recoverys or not. You can hold the secret of Area B 52 or MP3z of U2. The drive will be full exchanged but not repaired. So you can choose to make backup, Raid or to live "free". There are companies that do data recovery from FDD to big data storage drives. To do this they do lots of work to research how thigs work and write specialized software. Some of them write the soft to sell it, other only for them. The advantage of those companies is this that they can handle all present drives on the market, no matter if there are or not in warranty, exist or not as trade marks....

i do not mean abt REWRITE a drive but i mean about REWRITE FW.

October 7th, 2006, 5:35

Rewrite ----- Flash -----
Better to think about reading and repairing - especially for Maxtor
and in many cases WD and others.
"Flash" - romware
Repair - diskware.
For Maxtor - in +90% of cases you repair some parts of "diskware"
you will seldom if ever REWRITE anything.
Hope this is helpful.

What ??? u dont rewirte bad modules in maxtor that are currupted !
