Hello,
I have a Seagate HDD firmware that I need to modify in order it to change behaviours to security commands
(When it receive any ATA SECURITY UNLOCK command, it must act as if the user password were the right one)
in order to repair some computers which require that their HDD are locked with the right code (which I haven't, and doesn't works with an unlocked device), their HDDs are out of order...
I just need to use the modified drive to boot the computer and dump motherboard bios (which contains lock code in order to lock another drive to work fine with the computer)
I have all I need except informations to edit firmware (I have the right flash utility and original firmware, and utility to dump MB bios and retrieve HDD lock code from it)
Where could I find any information about firmware file structure, decompilation or edition, and needed softwares ?

Thanks, and I appologize for my bad english skill.

Try to clear the CMOS; try to flash a new version of the BIOS or Change the Bios chip itself.
Impossible, I would have already done it... They aren't real PC, but PC based computers...
Only way to do it is to modify HDD firmware or to solder a new chip, but some motherboards I have to repair are protected so much that I can't sold anything on it.

I am not HDD guru, but i know you should load the identical seagate HDD to save the firmware, then write into the defect one.Maybe the password problem caused by certain firmware module.I suggest you that you should use professional software if you will repair many HDDS.

I recommand you use our software, and you can http://www.salvationdata.com/download.htmdownload the demo version

Thank you for your _ADVERT_, but here is _NOT_ any link between my problem and your message, I need to modify a firmware in order to repair a computer, not to repair HDDs...
I think I won't ever use a software made by people that can't read
I can maybe suggest you:
Learn the alphabet
or Reading Lessons

Hi,

In case all these PC based stuff use the same PWD on their drives the most trivial thing U could do is to read out the user PWD from a bad drive (need to be working on some basic level to do this), and lock the new drive with that PWD.
U should FORGET modifying the FW itself unless U work for seagate and are a FW engineer :)

regards,
pepe
