Late Calibration .

I have many hdd like 31024h1 and 5t020h2 having a strange problem these hdd have slow sectors and i have tried selfscan on these drives but it didnt work . One day i took an ok drive i noticed late calibration on the faulty drive but on the ok drive the calibration was much faster . The faulty hdd did late calibration about 4-5 sec after the head got ready just same like Romulus drive when firmware is bad . Even checked the firmware it had no problems .
What is this problem and any advice on this would be helpful .
Thanks .
