Long story short, the PCB is dead. So anyone with a matching drive care to help me out?

From the drive:
Code: RAMC1TUO
N, G, C, A

SN: R29H7DXE

4R040L0E21011
LBA: 80043264
MFG Date: 05JUL2004
Made in Singapore ( ) B 3

R29H7DXE FR42A

From the PCB:
JABACXVD
T4FRA
22064LGJHT
ER

I'm looking for either a working PCB I can borrow (yes borrow, after i get the data off the drive it's going to the recyclers) or someone that can tell me what component Q501 is on the PCB. I know it's an IC in SOT223 packaging, the problem is the identifying numbers on it got toasted so I don't know what to look for so I can replace it. If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it.

Borrow? Yeah sure, why not? Say, mind if I "borrow" your toothbrush??

Q501 is PH29 PB4350.

(PS: I've got a great scheme for recycling toilet paper. Let me know if you're interested).

Seems I need to fully explain things. Borrow: A working PCB that matches the one from the drive I have is sent to me. I swap it with the non working one, get the drive back up and running and recover the data. Afterwards, I pack up the working PCB that was sent to me and send it back to the original owner paying for shipping both ways plus a few extra dollars for them helping me out.

Not that it matters anymore, with the part info, thank you, I can pick up a replacement IC for around a $1.00 and get the drive working again.

Perhaps the only thing worse than being cheap is being humorless . . . .

;-)

Not being completely sober with a lack of smileys in a post make things appear to be something they're not. Anyway, thank you for the information about the IC and I'm not cheap, it's way more fun to resolder a blown out IC than to just swap a board. :D

It would be harder to find a pcb and even if u find the pcb u would have to swap ROM . A better suggestion would be that u find any maxtor hdd whose pcb is ok u would easily find the Q501 on that pcb replace it , and u would have your hdd working again .
This will save u both time and money .

Or you can borrow any Maxtor PCB, swap Q501, recover data, swap Q501 back and send it back :)

That's somewhat true about pulling Q501 off any drive. It has to be the same diamondmax 16 series drive. I've had a couple people provide me with part numbers for Q501 from different diamondmax series drives and the transistor is a different value that the 16 series. Things like this are never easy. :D

If you are willing to send me a SASE I will pull the part off of the board and send it to you.

Matter of fact, you don't need to borrow it. I'll even let ya keep it.

How's that for economy, Mr. Frugalman??

Well, I need to login more often. All the usual places are out of stock of the component. Sigh, always something. Jono-ats, I do believe I'll take you up on that offer. PM coming your way.
