Hello!
I have a Seagate 300gb 7200.8 that died on me yesterday. Clicking after spin-up. Tried several times but it was no use. After trying a couple of times today hoping that it was a bad connection (eg. power) I put the drive in the freezer for aproximately 5min and tried again. (it was only slightly colder than room temperature) It started without problem but after only 30sec or so it started to seek more than usually. (not really a healthy sound either) I don't think it was a os/program induced seek but rather something that the drive did on it's own. Sounded random too. But I managed to copy roughly 1gb during this seeking sound but then suddenly it began clicking again. First only a single click and then it copied some more files, then it started clicking again, again and again. What should be my next step to recover this drive? Does this indicate a platter/head problem or rather a circuit board problem?
