Just curious. Has anyone ever tried a non-contact laser tachometer to find the true rpm of a spinning hard drive? Would the mirror surface prevent it from working? Thanks.

I would think that you would have to make a black line with a marker pen just like you would do with a strobe.

What if you made a black line between the center spindle screw and the edge of the platter hold down cover? If it was just on the center platter hold down cover it woudn't interfer with the drive.
