Hi all,

Got a Samsung SP0411N here, which spins up then spins down again immediately.

So, I guess some problem with the Dyanamic Translator, so perform Soft Reset... Drive spins up and becomes Ready.. With Model, S/N etc OK.

But.. Get this...

This drive is equal situation to Maxtor 6E040; easy platter swap.
I think will be only solution if there is any.

Excuse my ignorance, but how would a platter swap make the modules read OK?

It could be a head problem (lame head). But if you see scratches on the platter, forget it.
Then chances will be very low to recover the data.

Yes Samsung slimlines series some times had head crash u need to lift up the platter to analyze it

I know this is an old post, but I hope you can read it.

I have the same problem in many Samsung drives, even 3,5" not only 2,5".

Always spinning up an down, and if I reset them with mhdd I can only see model and serial but cannot access them.

I don't understand how platters' damage can be related with this spinning up and down.

are U sure the PCB is native? ROM and SA incompatibility can cause such symptoms...

Yes I'm sure the HD I'm talkin about they work all with their native ROM.

Maybe there's corruption in ROM PCB, and then replacing it with compatible board the incompatibility still remains?
