Hi, just wondering if anyone has experineced such issues in the past with this drive. The above drive comes in and is clicking all the time, attached it to the pc3000, drive wont id, launch the utility, select ATMr family and utility wont work, it keeps on just returning to the utility screen to select a family. removed the pcb from the drive tested on pc3000 seperately and the board shows the ready lights, i have a donor drive same model, same mlc number, different firmware stickers on board but the boards are identical with all the chip numbers, i tested the donor, backed up resources all ok. i replaced the heads donor to patient, same issue drive clicks, cant id drive, launch the utility and same issues exactly as above. so i installed the patient heads into the donor to see the results and the donor works correctly, it is able to id, instantly with no isses and i can carry out all nescessary tests on the drive. so this rules out the heads being faulty. i had a look at the patient drive and cant see any scratches on the top surface but not sure about 3 other surfaces as it is as 2 platter drive. however i powered the patient drive, removed cover in clean room and noticed that there is a very small uneven rotation of the platter while spinning and am wondering if this is sufficent to make the drive not work? has anyone experienced these sorts of uneven spinning issues with this drive or other similar drives ? and if so i assume the only solution is to swap platters in to the donor with the platter exchange tool ? i am supecting a mechanical issue with this drive as if you listen closely you can sometimes hear the motor trying to reach full speed and slowing down and starting again,( PCB has been swapped ) also the customer is leaving this laptop on 24hours a day every day sorry for the long post
