I am trying to get a Tiny Computer to work. I have no idea what it is but probably about 4 years old. It has already totally destroyed one disk. In my ignorance I thought - OK put new hard disk in.
Put new hard disk in and started to load windows - no problem until the first reboot. The computer immediately said - HDD Error cannot read disk. I thought OK I'll put it in another computer and load windows on that. HDD is totally mucked up. Has bad sector apparently running across whole disk????
I am currently running MHDD on it but I have no idea what this can do/does or if it can repair anything.

Can someone help me with a freeware HDD repair programme that can restore this brand new 500Gb disk to factory state so that I can use it.

HELP!!

PS It will need to run of CD 'cos the damn thing won't boot from floppy nor can I alter the BIOS 'cos the floppy choice isn't in there.

What happened to the first HD?
Have you measured the power supply voltages? Specifically, +5V and +12V
It might be helpful to know who makes the motherboard and/or computer.
It might just be a coincidence. I've heard this silly rumor that hard drives sometimes die for no apparent reason.

Hi,

Some old power supply can rise too high the voltage when switching off and discharging the capacitors (control circuits off too early), and can rise too high until the control circuits set up properly when switching on.

Additionally the old ps can leave a noise on the power voltage during normal use, and can make some malfunction in the hdd. (and in some other parts too)
