Hi all
i have a WD5000AAKS with a completely frozen spindle, i have been able to loosen the spindle very carefully and get some rotation happening, however the spindle i sstill not spinning freely and when you apply power to the drive it attempts a small spin and gets stuck again,
it appears that i may need to do a platter change to overcome this issue and my question is will the Salvation Data platter exchange tool work with this drive? or is there some compatability issue with the newness of the drive and that tool?
can anyone recommend any other methods that they have used ? or other tools that may be suitable from other suppliers?
thank you

i dont think it will work with your drive as yours is a 500GB
to many platters
but someone on the net has found a way round this.
allso when using the salvation data platter exchange tool you got to work slow
as the platters can fall out bye bye data forever
the only way your get your data back is doing some kind of platter swap
you can not do a motor swap.
