I usually leave Windows running, but when I logged on this time, the monitor, keyboard, and everything froze. I had to use the button to shut down the computer. When I turned it back on, the BIOS couldn't recognize the SATA drive. It also told me that the floppy couldn't be detected. I had another SATA drive attached, but it's still working. The other one won't power up anymore. Seems like something shorted the one drive and the floppy? Could replacing the PCB fix it? It's a Seagate. Thanks for any input.

Have you tried another SATA and power cable? Have you tried the drive in another machine?

Inspect the PCB, is there any visible damage? Any burning smell when powered on? Replacing the PCB can be tricky as Seagate drives need FW code to match, but it can be done.

Have you tried a new computer? A new Motherboard might be a better 'PCB fix'. It could also be a Power Supply. Bottom line, do some investigating (We call it troubleshooting, or a diagnosis) before trying to fix anything.

My guess is the PS or the power cable bad connection.

I agree, you need to try the drive on another computer first, but the pcb swap can be the solution but not 100%!
Anyway, use the same identical pcb, or you will do bigger mistake!

CK and rchadwick, thanks for responding. Yes, I tried the power cable and the SATA cable from the working drive and it's still the same. I also tried putting it in a USB enclosure and Windows could not see it. My untrained eyes doesn't see any spots that look burnt and there is no burning smell. I have attached pictures, maybe you can spot something?

N.C., just saw your post. Since you think it may be with the PS or cable too, I guess I'll try again with another cable. My other computer only supports IDE, so I can buy an adapter. Thanks for your input.

These drives also suffer motor stuck issue u need to check it with a working pcb .

Looks like a good pcb but i think it is master chip problem or something else in

your pcb ( diode, coil .... etc ) I agree with rameez try to check it with a

working pcb
