My laptop (HP pavilion zv5340) died but the hard drive is still ok. I want to get some data from it so I bought a "USB 2.0 to IDE adapter kit" to bring data to my desk top. When I went to hook the cable up to the hard drive I found that the pin connectors from the drive do not fit into the receptor on the kit. Did I buy the wrong thing? If so, what do I need to accomplish the data transfer? My laptop will not boot at all so I cannot extract the data by using the laptop.
Many thanks for any help provided.

Does the connector on your laptop drive look almost the same as the connector in the kit, just smaller? Or is it completely different? If it looks the same but smaller, you need a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter, cheap on Ebay. Otherwise, you'll likely need a SATA-IDE adapter. To avoid getting the wrong thing, you probably should google for a picture of the SATA connector.
