Hi, I am obviously new to these forums. I have a problem I hope someone can help me with.

I have several Hard drives I use for storing stuff. I had hoped to get a hotswap kit off ebay and upgrade a few of the IDE drives to Sata. However, I currently just plug the drives into a live power source and use USB. This has worked fimne for me for well over a year, maybe a bit longer....until today. My wife was pressing me to find some files from an old computer she had and when I went to plug a 400GB Sata drive into the power source I inadvertantly attempted to plug the power source in upside down. This is one of those drives with both types of power inputs, sata and the old 4 prong. I was using the 4 prong. Needless to say I pushed it hard enough to make a temporary connection and knocked the power out on my computer. After rebooting I plugged the HD in correctly and realized I had fried the PCB Board. Now that drive does not spin. The HD mdl # is WD4000YR-01PLB0.

First off, is it possible to swap PCB boards on this model?

And secondly, how hard is it?

I have succcessfully dissassembled and reassembled a Dell Inspirion 600M laptop,so I think I could change this PCB if it is possible.

Any help is appreciated.

On a side note, last year I had another 400GB HD fail me. Both that drive and this drive have some pictures that I cannot replace. Does anybody know of an inexpensive place to retrieve that information off the hard drives?

It is not hard to replace a PCB board on a drive, but it would not work due to unique microcode on those boards. Microcode has to be trransfered from original board to a new one.
You will need access to special equipment in order to do it.

Recommendations: Find reliable and inexpensive Data Recovery firm for your needs.
There is a lot of people on this forum which will be able to help.
