Hi everyone,

I'll apreciate it if you guys can help or tell me where to get help with my 500 Gb seagate SATA hard drive (ST3500320AS). The drive just went off and stopped from appearing in bios. Few days before going off, it would sometimes disappear whilst the computer is on. I had to restart the computer for it to appear. Now when I connect it, it spins with just no abnormal sound and no smell for anything burnt, but not appearing. I am based in Rustenburg - South Africa.

You probably have standard problem with Seagate 7200.11. First build the terminal. Next read this: st3500820as-7200-t11324.html

This definitely looks like the typical 7200.11 0GB error ...

2 choices:

1. No valuable data on the drive:
If you are under warranty - have the drive exchanged for free
If no warranty left - buy a new drive

or

2. Valuable data on the drive:
Look for a DR company offering the 7200.11 repair.

I do NOT suggest a Do It Youself procedure like the one proposed on previous post
- one single wrong key could brick your drive - or could lead to much higher costs for
data retrieval.

Just depends on the value of your data ...

If ... you would be ... a data recovery specialist ... and specialised for this type of drive ...
then ... its just one option out of severals ....

But your question prooves you are no DR specialist - so either brick your drive and loose
your data and have fun in dismounting a hard disk- or wait to get the money for a DR.
