hi.
i have a
model: wd2500jb-98gvco
dcm: dsbhctjah
pcb no: 2060-701265-001 rev a the board is burnt...
i have donor drive
model:wd2500jb-oogvco
dcm: dscactjah
pcb no: 2060-701265-001 rev a
i have salvation docotor and comass.
i copied the rom file from the good drive and wrote it to the deffective drive. it is spinning but clicking. it is not coming to ready. any idea? i need the data on the drive.

Did you make backup of everything ROM included ? The problem is elsewhere , 90% HEADS. Hope you have backup of the original ROM....

orignal rom on pcb is burnt.
May 25th, 2009, 10:21
Then if not game over, it's near (without some knowledge). Just curious : if it was burnt, how did you write it ?
May 25th, 2009, 10:46
um this is the exact thing i did... i seriously hope i didnt do a stupid thng
1. connected donor drive to hd doctor
2. did read rom..... said rom completed
3. removed pcb board connected it to drive with burnt board. drive will not come to ready so did the jumper settings for it to read pcb
4. did write pcb.
i have a feeling what i just did was useless since i wrote the same information back to the rom lol

What do you mean "I copied the rom file from the good drive and wrote it to the defective drive"?
May 25th, 2009, 10:52
when u do a read rom where are u reading from? are ureading from the part on the pcb or from the SA?
May 25th, 2009, 10:54
PCB
May 25th, 2009, 10:54
well i guess i did a stupid thing then...
May 25th, 2009, 10:55
so what do i do?
the pcbs are identical?

Have you actually written to the "burnt" PCB?
If you haven't you may be in luck, I very much doubt the actual ROM chip is damaged. So I would physically move the ROM chip from the burnt PCB to the donor.

the rom chip is what is s burnt/fried. it has poped open and melted .....

I think something's really wrong...

i get smell of confusion there....

I don't think I've ever seen a physically burned ROM, although it's certainly possible.
Are you sure we are talking about the ROM and not the motor IC? A photo would help . . .
Adaptives on the donor may be different, e.g. the head map might not match, which would cause clicking.
OTOH, anything that would destroy a ROM chip almost certainly would have killed the preamp circuit as well. If so, this would not be an easy recovery . . .

Post a photo of the component side of the PCB.

Thats the smooth chip that is burnt, not the rom.
By overwriting the rom you just destroyed your chances for a successfull recovery.

Q5 also seems k.o. . If Rom overwritten - and don't know why - only with very special skill will be possible to recover data. Also, in this scenario, I suspect some preamp problems too... Tough case. Just curious, why work with the ROM?

thats the point what i said...
