Samung HM250JI - not detected after PCB swap

September 7th, 2010, 9:07

Hello,

We've a Samsung HM250JI with a burnt PCB.
We've swapped PCB with a same HDD donor but the patient HDD don't initialize.
We hear a little noise but not as a hdd click sound.

The HDD still in busy mode and it's not possible to check the modules firmwares.
After a few minutes the HDD is very hot.

Do you know that it's a preamp issue ?
Actually, we have not yet done a head swap.

Have you an idea about this problem and how to resolve it to check SA ?

Thank you in advance for your answer.
You can PM me.

if you post terminal log, someone can help you diagnose....

Re: Samung HM250JI - not detected after PCB swap

In order if likeliness (IMHO)

1. Incompatible ROM on PCB
2. Blown preamp
3. Something else :-)

I agree with pcimage.

Most of the Samsungs with burned PCBs seem to have blown headstacks, too.

We speak Samsung . First, post log. Then, we will see.

Hello everybody.

After HSA swap, the terminal log is the following but the hdd is still in busy mode.
It seems it try to seak the SA and after the hsa go to the ramp and begin again to seek, etc.
What do you think about this ?

Re: Samung HM250JI - not detected after PCB swap

The first terminal log shows dead MHA (preamp and/or heads).
The last one shows incompatible MHA or boot adaptives are missmatching.

It's what I told in pm with possible workaround. To me there's media damage that's killing new mha - to be confirmed.

well, yes, can be, but the chance are small from the log...

You shold swap the Marvel chip. The boot adaptives are there. 8)

Hello Mr.BGman
Customers paying less comparing to what we already payed to learn, to have knowledge, experience ...... etc.

Re: Samung HM250JI - not detected after PCB swap

So, to verifiy that the HSA donor is always work, we have swap it on the donor and the donor work fine.
I just precise that the patient HDD is a HM250JI and the donor HDD is HM250JI/M. It seems that /m or /d define the origin of the production of the hdd.

Now, I see these possibilities:

1.) Incompatible HSA.
2.) Is the marvell chip of this hdd content unique adaptives parameters and it's necessary to solder the patient chipset to the donor PCB chipset ? Actually, we use the donor PCB with the donor marvell chipset.

What do you think about this ?

Not at all.

For example the "precise diagnose" is free in my lab. ;)

Everybody can try out.
Send any drive in, i will do diagnose, and if you disagree the offer, i will send the drive back free of charge! (to anywhere)

1.) can be
2.) yes, Marvell have settings for reach the SA, you should move or copy the content.
3.) yes, can be too! :-)

Good for you Janos, but believe me this is not the case with most of the "guru's" in this forum. :D
