Sorry, but you can't perform heart surgery with a butter knife and some bulldog clips

I respectfully suggest to seek pro advice on this one if the data is worth anything to you.

Re: seagate ST380215AS

Bullshit. If the drive was only locked, you wouldn't have CERT and STUFF problems.

Either : 1) you or someone else have tinkered with commands and internet stuff and now the drive is screwed , or 2) the problem was elsewhere : the drive APPEARED locked in the first instance due to the severe corruption, then it haven't worked anymore after power cycle.

The 1st scenario seems more probable.

It is possible to "rebuild the drive from scratch" in order to reuse it, this is sure (assuming surface and heads are OK) but I can't tell you how. Maybe in the Seagate forums, or on other forums, who knows ....

http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive ... 00009.html

Seagate Terminal might be the right tool, if you an find an appropriate firmware cert and overlay in the downloads section or elsewhere, and it appears to have the factory certification and other tests available, but I haven't used it much, and its all in Russian. Use Google translate for the rich text doc file. The first time you copy everything from the file into Google and hit translate, it will punk out and only translate the first few lines. Go back and delete those few lines and then hit translate again, and it will work and translate all of it.

It is unfortunate we have no American Spetsnazt, or there would be an English version.

Spesibo, to all Russian droog Spetsnazt...
