I am a PC repair tech who has an interest and some knowledge of data recovery.
This is knowledge learned from fixing PC's? This knowledge will not get you anywhere. Real knowledge is made from research and experience and many many hours of dedicated DR, not as a sideline.
Also, if you really do have some DR knowledge, you will know just how complex it is, and for this no rip off tools, chinese or otherwise, should really be acceptable.
No I certainly realize that PC repair and data recovery are mutually exclusive fields. While I make no claims to be an expert, it's foolish to assume that just because someone's business is not dedicated to DR, that they have no knowledge of the topic. I have successfully recovered many client's data without "running SpinRite" or "sticking the drive in a freezer". I have also done successful headswaps and platter swaps and recovered data. I am under no illusions about my abilities, and will readily send a drive somewhere else if it is beyond my recovery capabilities.
I just have a problem with the theory that everything that is not "the original" is crap. I happen to own a mass-produced automobile. It was not made by the Ford Corporation. Does that make it any less effective at what it does?
Again, to look at the interface of something and declare it "crap" is shortsighted. Does anyone have any actual experience with this?
As far as the price, this basically seems to do what the SalvationData Doctor does, right? At a couple hundred dollars less? If nothing else, I would think the people here would be excited at the prospect of competition for SalvationData. This product is obviously not going to compete with PC-3000.
