If you're in the market to buy a data recovery business...

January 31st, 2011, 12:58

I saw one listed on Ebay for a cool million dollars. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160533971349 How much is a business like this even worth? Especially with the market being so saturated with competition.

Never mind the idea that someone is going to buy some anonymous "business" over ebay? What a joke.

Haha, that can be quite an expense when you are moving whatever equipment they have. I might have to bid on it now.

I'm tempted to offer $1. Without knowing the name of the actual business, even if it were a legit sale, it would be crazy to spend that much money on a company with such little revenues. Based on the numbers they mention, it would take at least 8 years to break even.

Oh god my maths wen off so discount my post as it would be about 8 or 9 years to get money back at todys rate.

and we generate an average income in excess of $13,000 per month.

So you mean:

1375000
/1300 per month total average income
=1057.6923076923076923076923076923 months to get back original investment which equates to 88.141025641025641025641025641026 years

And that is without expenses!

Sorry too expensive for me so i'm out!

I think you were off a decimal point....should be 8.8 years. :D

I posted a few questions to them and they claim that someone already has made an offer. They say that your location has no relevance, as 95% of the work is shipped in. However, any monkey can figure out that if you have built a great reputation in South Africa and change the location to the US, there is going to be a huge difference in the volume of work.

So they are based in Africa?? Sounds legit.

I doubt they are in South Africa. My guess is that they are in the US.

I just looked again and it says location "United States".

Hey was this the question you asked them?

Without knowing the name and reputation of the company, the asking price is crazy. So, what is the name of the company? And, what are the monthly sales? Where is your company located? How do you justify a price that has, at best, 10 years pay back?

Looks like they already have it posted on the listing along with a response. It appears they are going by the old "something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay" theory. Reading through this diatribe a little more it seems more like they don't really care if they sell or not. Probably why the price is so flipping high.

Yup, that is my question. They should go into politics. Before anyone makes an offer of even 1 cent, they need to watch a few episodes of Drgaon's Den or Shark's Tank.

I just sent them a question too. I asked them if the price was negotiable.

I wanted to make an offer but they would not accept Western Union transfer :O(
