hard disk smart error 301

Don't know if i'm in the correct thread - sorry fi not
Everytime i boot my netbook hp dm1-3180 eg i get the error smart hard disk 1 (301)
In the BIOS there is no option to disable the error while booting.

I've already low-level formated the hard drive and did scan and repair with HDD regenerator. - nothing helps.
I don't care if the HDD crashes soon - everything is saved.

Is there a a possibility to deactivate SMART? - or at least to hide the error while booting?

Your only choice is to Clear Smart by some tools like Salvation Data HDD doctor or other HDD tools for Hitachi or Disable your HDD SMART by Hitachi factory tools( If possible or Exist!).
I fix this errors for 4 Brands: Maxtor-Seagte-WD-Samsung But not for Hitachi-Toshiba-Fujitsu....

The smart error is there for a reason, backup your data and replace the drive, it is failing.

If your brake warning light comes on in your car, you think that removing the bulb in the warning indicator would fix the brakes?

i dont mind if the HDD fails soon - I've already made a back up.
I just want it to run properly until it dies. - it's just a netbook to write on at the University

Could we see how HD Sentinel or HDDScan reports those same SMART values? The full 48 bit hexadecimal values often reveal a lot more than HD Tune's 32 bit decimal data, some of which are obviously nonsensical (eg -24641104 errors or 3014702 shutdowns). IMHO, HD Tune is great for benchmarking, but lousy for SMART reporting.

And you fix it by only CLEARING the warning ? It's like sweeping dust under a carpet. The disk needs to be completely recertified to be useful and reliable.

However, I can do it the right way but it's pointless for 1 HDD . If they were 10 maybe....

Everything is safed - i just want the HDD to work properly without pressing F1 at every startup (HP disabled many in the BIOS, so i cant disable the warning) until it crashes.

If it is able to "repair" the HD with software it's fine, but i don't want it to really repair it to save data.
It's just a 2,5" 500 GB Hitachi from my netbook

Find someone in your area with the right tool - unfortunately it costs about 10'000 $ - and ask to sweep... ehm, fix it . There's nothing you can do on your own, I'm afraid.

It means that your drive is reporting a SMART predictive failure status. If you are requesting more interpretation from the readers here, and don't care about the drive's lifespan as you have said, then you must supply the full SMART attribute data, including raw attribute values, as you have already been told by fzabkar. Until you have supplied that data, then any further questions are just a waste of time IMHO

FYI, due to features & expectations in some BIOS, then even if you try to disable SMART support in the drive (to prevent your current warning message) that may cause a new & different message from the BIOS during boot (I've seen that before). In short - your ability to prevent warning messages from a failing drive depends on the BIOS and its features / functionality / options (none of which are on-topic here).

I just let the hdd generator dos test (just scan - not repair) scan the laptop when the power goes off and i'm not able to restart it any more..
nothing blinks or peeps - he is just dead

Ok... fail - the power supply wasn't properly plugged in, so the netbook emptied the accu until 0% in dos....

Looking at the SMART data via HD Tune, with its incorrect raw data representation (being displayed as a signed 32-bit number?), I could guess at the type of problem with the drive - but there is no point in doing that, because any real resolution would cost money, and you say that you don't want to repair the drive. Interestingly, the drive seems to have already been unable to supply some data to the host, so you should not expect the drive to work normally until it finally dies - it may continue to be "flaky".

You seem to be looking for a free "fix" i.e. to hide the SMART warning during boot (which has just a slight impact for you, needing to press F1 during boot), so I see only 2 possible free options for you. Either:

a) accept the current situation and press F1 on each boot; or
b) use HDAT2 to see if this drive's DCO options will allow the drive to report that it has no SMART support (and therefore the drive cannot report a SMART failure to the BIOS). However, as I said before, that may cause a different warning from the BIOS i.e. a warning that the drive has no SMART support! You would have to try it and see how your BIOS behaves. That seems a lot of effort for little (perhaps zero) benefit, but it's your time you will need to spend, not mine, so it's your choice. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Unfortunately even for disabling SMART correctly in this case, tooling is needed.

but what would you guess is the error? defect cable? - too hot? - I've scanned for bad sectors, but everything is fine
The laptop is much slower than before, and i read in a forum that SMART throttles the speed of a hdd down if it reads an error..

It never fell to the ground or something...
It just drives me crazy because the hdd broke three weeks after the warranty expired...

SMART attribute 184, from Wikipedia:
This attribute is a part of Hewlett-Packard's SMART IV technology, as well as part of other vendors' IO Error Detection and Correction schemas, and it contains a count of parity errors which occur in the data path to the media via the drive's cache RAM.

This explains why there are no bad sectors and why the laptop is slower than before. There must be some electrical problem related to the cache, maybe faulty RAM chip.

Indeed, that general area would be my focus for further investigation too - but even if that is the problem area, as BlackST said: "Talking about it won't solve the problem and there's no FREE solution". Without money being spent by the OP, we'll never know whether any particular suggestion (guess) is correct or not...
