Hard drive stopped working,

Hello everyone,
My computer was working fine then all of a sudden my computer started working slow and slower then it ever has then I couldn't get it to do a disk defragment. so I decided I would reboot it, to my avail it would not reboot, it also makes a loud clicking noise, amy ideas what this could be the pcb was very dusty. Heres the hard drive info and i'll attach pictures
It's a Western Digital 160 GB Hard Drive
WD Caviar SE
Drive Parameters: LBA 312500000
S/N: WMANM1195830
MDL: WD1600JS-75MHB0
DATE: 10 AUG 2005
DCM: HSBHCTJCH
Then under the bar codes:

and the PCB board has:

Likely mechanical issue. Not an easy model drive to recover. Not DIY.

Highly recommend to no longer power on.

Alright thanks what type of mechanics? could it be just the board? and is there anyway to recover the files from it?

Try cleaning the preamp contacts at J1 by gently rubbing them with a soft white pencil eraser. You might be lucky ...

PCB is unlikely in my opinion. Nothing in your description indicates that PCB could have gotten damaged.

Data can be recovered, however it depends on the extent of damage. If the drive has not been tampered much with, chances for a professional to recover the data are high. Someone without experience, realistically, close to 0% chance.

This may well be heads, but proper diagnosis and working through a process of elimination will prove / disprove this.... you cannot just assume it's heads because it's clicking......

Yes, you're right.

Occasionally these PCBs mimic a head fault, worth a shot to change the PCB.

First off, get a PCB of the same model (as close as possible) and try it.

If it spins up,and stays spinning with no clicking (you wont get ID or detect properly in bios at this stage because the ROM version does not match the firmware on the platters) then great, go ahead and swap over the U12 ROM chip and you should be good to go.

ALL DIY ATTEMPTED AT YOUR OWN RISK, YOU COULD DAMAGE THE DRIVE BEYOND RECOVERY.

Hello thanks for all the help, I cleaned the contacts, tried it still no luck and makes the clicking sound, however in the bios it come sup the following. Anymore ideas? just in case I believe I found a identical hard drive only it was made on 07 JUL 2005 as opposed to 10 AUG 2005

And you thought you could fix the drive with a rubber !

Sorry for bringing bad news but the problem is much worse. If you want to was... ehm, invest some money on PCB tinkering, you have less than 5% probability of success. 5 is better than 0.

So how would you suggest getting the data from it I just want to copy a few files from it and then it will never be used again

If you wish to pursue the PCB swap, transfer the 8-pin chip at U12 from patient to donor.

Otherwise I know of a data recovery company that will do a relatively inexpensive head swap, assuming that's the only problem.

In my opinion a 0 MB recognized drive is not pcb related but at least fw or more (demages on platters) also i noticed a factory alias or similar text on the screeenshoot.

I don't think he's actually swapped the PCB yet, so nothing has changed.

I do agree that 99% likely the heads/preamp are bad, but the PCB has not yet been ruled out.

The recognition as factory alias "hawk" and capacity 7.85gb (his bios says 8gb) again tells us nothing, except that the drive cannot read the SA.
