How to get into this field of work?

From first topic I posted here I understood I need more experience to work with customers drives. I am sorry for that.

I do have couple donor drives maybe 100 or so. But i lack equipment and the knowledge.

Where should I begin?

At this moment reading Knowledge base section of this forum.

I will work ONLY on donor drives! ONLY!

That's a good start, but honestly at this point in history a better question to ask might be; SHOULD you get into data recovery?

How long of a career do you expect to have? SSDs are going to all but ruin this industry in the next decade when they fully replace HDDs in new computers.

Agreed, however I think 5 years is maybe the best we can hope for as a viable data recovery business.

But I do fix laptops and PCs as well. Just want to learn something new, because the "expert" guy we give HDDs for data recovery.... i am tired from complaints from customers about him.

Look into buying a DDI which will allow you to image HDD's at a hardware level. That is a great way to start as well as a suite of software such as R-Studio, UFS, ReclaiMe etc. People will help you out on this forum as much as possible. You do sound sensible and level headed and working on donors is a great way to start. You can then progress onto a more advanced software/hardware combination such as PC3000.

is DDI =DeepSpar Disk Imager? I got suggestion to buy RapidSpar a while back, are they same in sense?

Not sure I agree with that. The mechanical engineering involved in producing those drives will be outpriced (and out performed) by similar sized SSDs as SSD technology advances and gets more affordable.

Totally agree. SSDs will kill us, but I don't think helium drives will be a factor in our demise.

While you are experimenting, just buy some cheap drives from eBay and open them up. Its a great way to learn. Once you feel confident in working on drives (swapping heads etc), then you can invest in a cleanroom bench if you decide data recovery is for you. But bear in mind, you need to have done more than 50 successful head swaps before even attempt to work on a clients drives (in a cleanroom of course).
