What do you mean by that?

he told me he couldn't recover it and recommended ontrack... i'm also looking at seagate since it's their design so i figure they would know what to do with it

also, i'm located in sacramento

Hello weizor,

looks like I got the same problem. Mine happend on 2nd of November. In the day before I turned off my server, everything working perfectly, and in the day after, poooooffff, the HD was gone.

Mine is a Barracuda 750GB (ST3750330AS) so i think you all know how many GBs I lost in this... problem is that I cannot remember everything that was there. Most of it had no backup

I got other hard disk in the server, just like this one, another seagate 750. Tried to replace the logic board but without success. I'm still trying some other things but I'm loosing my faith on it.

I also heard this week that the new 1.5TB seagate is also having a freeze problem once in a while. Looks like this .11 series is not as good as it seems.

If you have any new ideas post it! I will do the same!

Solution: Don't buy 7200.11 drives.

Solution 1 - buy equipment and knowledge and fix the drive.
Solution 2 - ask a reputable and skilled dr/pro expert on 7200.11 and pay
Solution 3 - live without that drive.

Same issue as the original poster. Please let me know how this works out.

Why is corrupted firmware so difficult to fix? Do they need to take apart the drive?

7200.11 is relative new in dr.
The commercial tools not supports this model at this time.
Only the best skilled dr companies can fix your drive actually. :(

if you need the data, you really need to pay to the good person. :(

Or if you can wait, i think some months later will come out more common solution for dr comps, and the fixing will be chepaer...

Janos

The freezing problem at least is solved with a firmware update from what I've been reading.

It is not that easy.

There are solutions to those problems. :|

I will give big discounts on recovery services of those drives to known members of the forum :)

I have the same problem with 2 of my 7200.11 1TB drives now showing up as 0MB in my BIOS. SeaTools sees the drives and serial numbers but Short and Long tests fail. MHDD seems them as not being LBA so can't do anything further.

I run three of them in a Solaris ZFS pool to reduce the risk of data loss. Unfortunately the ZFS pool obviously can't survive two drives failing.

I have another unused 1TB disk - would swapping over the PCB help at all? Is this even possible?

Losing the data is a major inconvenience but is not the end of the world - important stuff like photos I have backed up - so its not worth me paying thousands to have this recovered. Is there anyone based in south east London who would be prepared to do this at a reasonable price?

It also seems to me from the sheer number of 0MB issues with the 7200.11 drives on this forum that Seagate have a real problem with these drives. Probably best to stay away from them? All my HDDs are Seagate but I wonder if its time to switch to another vendor or is that not going to make any difference?

Thanks in advance for any help

If reasonable price is 100 £ for you, then it's not possible. In your case, RMA the drives if possible and, if not sure about Seagate, sell them or try to get a refund and buy another.

I ended up sending my hard drive to payam data recovery in australia. they charged me $675au which is their "economy service" but were able to fix it and ship it back to me within 48 hours of them receiving it. they also paid for the return shipping. the customer service was top notch and i was actually able to talk to people who knew what they were doing, rather than cookie-cutter responses from other companies. Needless to say, I am extremely satisfied with their communication and prices. companies here in the states were quoting me up to $2000usd, and two companies i tried (disk doctors and drive savers) told me my data was corrupt beyond repair. instead, i found a company that actually knew what they were talking about and was able to fully recover all my data for less than $500usd. If you have a similar problem, i would highly recommend using their services, even if you are not based in australia. seagate charges an insane amount of money for an obviously simple procedure, and their customer support had no idea what they were talking about.

There are two separate issues with these drives. One is the LBA: 0 problem which requires hardware tools. The other is that the drives will sometimes "pause" for 30-60 seconds or drop out of RAID arrays randomly, and Seagate has released a firmware update to solve that problem.

Disk Doctors and Drive Savers both returned it as unrecoverable? Ha....

There are also plenty of forum members here with the required knowledge and tools to fix this issue.

argh - I have the same exact issue as OP. Drive working fine for a couple of months and one day I boot it up from standby, got the BSOD, reset the computer and it's not being detected by the bios. Did some google searching and it seems like many people are seeing the same issues :(

I've read through the thread and it looks like the suggestions are ranging from getting the people on the board to fix or send it to a HD recovery place like payam.

Any suggestions on a hard drive recovery place that is reputable in the Bay Area, San Francisco? I know the suggested place by seagate is here but they charge way too much, $1700. Worse come to worse, I can go with payam and ship my drive. But I was hoping there is some place local I can take it to.

Any suggestions or recommendations is appreciated!

wiseleo, i'm glad everything went well for you and you got your data back. There are many data recovery companies in Australia - we are 1 of them in Perth, WA and i hear so many horror stories of companies who lie just to get a job then stuff things up experimenting. Good to hear a good story of a happy customer.
