In spite of all the b.ll...t and mis-direction contained in previous replies, the answer is most likely the heads are at fault. In clicking scenarios on these drives the heads are usually at fault 90% of the time. Changing the platter is more work than just changing the heads. Be aware, however, that many people (and certainly a novice) will have great trouble in removing the upper magnet without difficulty. Frankly, it's not necessary to do this but it seems a lot of DR shops haven't figured out the easy way. At any rate, my opinion is that if this is the first time you've done this you'll probably fail in your efforts, but then again you may strike paydirt. Incidentally, the ATMR models are mechanically identical to the HTS5480 models of the same capacity; so if you have trouble locating your model you can try for an HTS548030M9 model.

Hi GipBrow.. have you succeeded with your hitachi hd repair? I have right now the same problem with the hd of my notebook (hitachi 120gb, hts541612j9sa00, 0a53006).. It has fallen form 15 cm and HD started to click click click..
I have opened it in a clean environment and the "sensors" on the moving head looks to be not in the right position.. a little "stretched".
I was thinking to buy and used identical HD and try to replace the "moving head" or the disks... any comment? Thanks!
