Thanks Jono. I have been doing head exchange for more than 5 years now. I can say that I am pretty good at it. That is why it is weird to me. I am starting to believe that just do head exchange as we know it is not the deal. Most of the times, the heads that I used are put back on the donor and work ok--

I rarely have problems with heads matching on the Royal series. I'm baffled.

I agree entirely with Jono, the KS/YS drives and the older BB/JB/JS drives are much more difficult than the AAxx Royl series drives. Took me several weeks to get an "unrecoverable" WD3200KS done.

Also agree about heads matching on Royl, easy enough unless you get a particularly rare bugger!

Pepe,

Could you venture as to say why it is so?

I guess I am left with one thing--Spend a lot of money on spare parts, and see what happens.

Beautifully said Pepe!

I think when I get it right, I will feel a joy that all of us get when we discover something in data recovery.

THanks!

Yes, these are the most enlightening moments of this field. And of course when we get paid after the hard work... :)
