Even if it did...

When I receive the PCB tomorrow and install it on to the HD if it spins and seen by my computer then that would be a lucky escape.
If I install it tomorrow and nothing spins then I know I have blown the pre amp and possibly my chances of recovering the data.
Due to the costs of pre-amp recovery by DATA RECOVERY firms then I would have to put it down to experience and give it a miss.
What will be will be...

I would first ask your repairer to confirm the presence of the onboard voltages at Q1 (linear regulator) and at the switchmode DC-DC converters near the SMOOTH chip. Also get him to test for the presence of the +5V and -5V supplies at the preamp pads. If these are OK, then I would have more confidence in a good outcome.
BTW, I mentioned Diverse Devices because the proprietor is a regular contributor at the sci.electronics.repair newsgroup which I watch on a regular basis.

I thought I would post an update...
I got the drive today installed the PCB and plugged in the power but alas though it powers up.
I do not hear the drive working so like I said in my previous post it's the end of the road for me...

Put it down to experience and walk away...

Assuming that the head preamp is still working and the damage is limited to the PCB, the odds are high that a professional data recovery firm could still recover your data without it costing an arm and a leg. But, you have to be up front about what was done and perhaps ease the tension by offering to cover the cost of the donor drive, is such a purchase is needed.

Dear Sir.
I also went to same experience as you , i plugged my laptop power cord 19v and the 750 Westerndigital is not working .
I am going to do same thing as you try to find out if the diode is burnt and then replace.
Thank you for the information.
