WD usb to sata new model of pcb

Adding to my previous post.
771754 (USB): Marvell 88i9146-TFJ2 MCU and an SH6601AF motor controller
771672 (SATA): Marvell 88i9045-TFJ2 MCU and an SH6601AD motor controller

Will the different chips be a problem? Sorry for the possibly stupid question, I'm trying to learn, and I thought there might be some compatibility between the two couple if ICs.

Firstly whats the fault?

Your going to need to research them. (looks like this is a USB3 PCB http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File: ... B_plug.PNG)
Remove the PCB from the drive & locate the capacitors you need to remove. Then look at the test points & see where they are on the other side. You will then need to work out which is tx+,tx-,rx+ & rx- (which you can check first using continuity test)
The USB will still be used for powering up the drive.
Hdd might have hardware encryption? definatly if it's from a WD My Passport Essential. If so then all data on the drive will be encrypted & not accessable.

Pin1 may be at different position on each board, so you may have to solder to donor PCB in alternate position so that pin1 on EEMPROM is at correct position on PCB

I thought I have to change the position, and put the pin1 in an other place. (I just understand the meaning of the both points on PCB and EEPROM
So EEMPROM changed but no result, the drive doesn't load, is there is another thing to change on the board

What do you think was the problem with your HDD ? Was it the USB port or the USB related circuitry ? Just curious.

Difficoult drive to recover: dropped one, so head swap + instability of reading + usb pcb... all the issue in 1 drive.

If U Want USB To SATA Compatibility Then Use The 2060-771692-001 ITs Compatible With Ur PCB But How You Handle Encription.
IF You Dont Know Then Contact Pro Dont RND On This Type Of Cases.

anyway i try to write rom again, but i got this message:

Invalid data size (262144). Expected (524288)

Is that complaint coming from your software or from the target drive?

What would happen if you padded the 256KB image with 0xFF bytes to create a 512KB image?

By the way, I tried this by just using win hex to add all "00" bytes at the end of the file and it works perfectly. Just add 262144 extra bytes. I don't think it even matters what you fill it with. Probably could just paste over another 512Kb ROM bin file.
