You didn't understand :

1) "barbaric method" was out from Google Translator not from us.
2) the "stone platters age" = refering to Nikimi, Quantums etc. that are at least phased out if not extinct at all (thousands of them still run fine maybe people don't ever know they have one on their PC).

For U4 it's no big deal.... refurbishing half a dozen of ST38421A right now 8). BTW if you want to exchange some experience on U4 and UX and their firmware (refurb mainly), I'm interested so PM me.

Don't know but would not be practical.
Probably is intended "another" method that - in addition - erase all data on the drive beside unlocking it.

Simple.
Just replace the hard drive with a new one. Install the os etc and carry on.

Hi, You have already been given advice by me & others here in this post:

Repair Station says it supports all samsungs hdds and is safe to users data but will cost you $49.95
http://hdd-tools.com/products/rrs/

HddUnlock will cost $24.95 but will wipe all data in the process
http://www.hddunlock.com/

3rd option is to take it to a DR Pro who has proper tools & skills to remove the password

Or replace the hard drive

If your looking for a free way then your out of luck sorry (unless you remember the password)

I feel a new HD would be your best bet on this one. Anyone here that puts a PW on a HDD remembers it. Believe me everyone here adds PW to the HDD on their laptops now becasue of the thieft of them around the islands. When one comes to me first I check with local police and make sure it was not stolen and sold again and if it was give them the laptop and client information of who brought it to me. Free password unlock is not available and you have your ways of doing this supplied to you already. Not sure what else you want? But do not think you are going to find it here sorry.
