This guy is trying to learn how to repair a hard drive and all anyone has done is tell him he's stupid for not

A. Using a clean room

B. Letting a Data Recovery service gauge him on hard drive recovery

Do you think that the people who repair hard drives are gods from above, give me a break. Pass knowledge down to people who need it or get off the forum.

Not sure what your level of experience is, but generally speaking, based on your reply and tone it is safe to assume that not that much. With that in mind, when one has put in a lot of work in learning the techniques correctly and comes across a post like this, 9 out of 10 times the type of answer to such a post will very much align with what the experienced people have already replied with.

For example, over the last couple of years, I have grown interest in flipping property for profit. I took a couple of courses, watched this and that, asked people, can virtually understand the process, BUT will I be successful in actually doing it a flip?!? 99% NOT, as there are unforeseen problems that are not presented in a course, or people have told you about, and so on. And this is the truth. The same goes for anything else complex in nature that requires more than common sense average knowledge. One more thing: with digital storage devices, typically a major screw up renders the data unrecoverable, while in many other applications, even if it costs more, there is a chance to still "fix" the problem, whether it is replacing or building parts, writing new code, etc.

On that note, common sense is quickly becoming extinct as well and being replaced by fear, false advertisement, brainwashing, inapplicable advice, etc.

I sense from your post that you may be frustrated in your own journey of finding out how to become more experienced and that's fine, it is part of the process. All more complex things in life follow suit.

With no disrespect to first time tryers, or the now long gone OP, maybe try another realm to see what this sort of dialogue would look like in another profession.

My car won't start and I have no idea why.
I'll try randomly taking bits out of the engine bay and replace them one at a time and see if it makes a difference.
It shouldn't matter too much that it has an engine management chip, i'm only changing internal bits.
I've taken the corrugated filter thing out of the air box as it might be slowing the air down i mean it's only air isn't it. Dirt won't matter that much.
I also have cut notches in the plug leads so i don't make the mistake of putting stuff back in the wrong order.
Having invested in a H4lfords spanner set I'm good to go, where should I look up "talk" settings for the head bolts?

The local mechanics say i'm stupid to try this, but what do they know?
You would think they would just tell me what to do.

I may ask the butcher if i can drive it into his freezer room.
