BTW, other people's experiences with 3TB drives may be different to your own. It could be that their enclosures were configured with 512-byte LBAs whereas yours has 4KB LBAs.

fzabkar, optimizing a drive is the process of moving all data to the beginning of the drive so there are no empty sectors between the different files on it, in other words all the empty sectors are contiguous from the end of the drive. The files are not compressed, just moved to the beginning of the drive.

"No go" means the drive still does not work properly, still gives the I/O error after a few minutes of use.
