Anyway, after not touching a drive for a long time, decided to switch on the drive today and record the sound... When amplified, it sounds really BAD... looks to me that I probably won't be able to recover anything. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me it sounds that surface is already damaged. See attached sound file, renamed to txt, mp3 was not allowed.

first i your data is not importatn you can try to open HDD case, if importatn data contact with a pro.

but if you open HDD you will see hearings on platters and dust inside HDD case.

If any of those are true no recovery posibilities

Thanks.

Actually I opened a case for a few seconds. I know it's already contaminated and I will have to clean it if I decide to still try to swap heads. Surprisingly at least the top platter was not scratched and there was no dust inside. Of course it does not mean that other platter is not scratched. But I still have hope. I will still attempt to swap heads once I will have a chance to do that. As I said before, data is not worth of over thousand bucks, so I will try to fix it myself. I'll post a log once I have a cable, I'm currently working in Iraq, so it takes time to ship stuff to here, I don't even have proper tools.
