I would think that the page size difference would only be evident during programming, not reading, but I'm not certain.

No problem on reading it, the programmer dumped the rom correctly.
The problem is only when i write into it!

Checked on my stock, looked at about 50 Hdds from 60 to 160 GB and other boards and have mixed parts : 25P10V6, AV and other 2510 , mixed brands . Reworked and original from factory.
Either with my own tool and with external HiLo programmer it doesn't matter, read and write and PCB works. Hence at least for me the problem is elsewhere.

Tool is for Maxtor, SW + some added HW.

Yes I have built also a programmer years ago but abandoned the "project" due to too many new devices added every month and it was always a new device the one you needed to program and you could not - so decided for the ALL that is also fully programmable if you want to add test vectors etc. (already had and still have ALL-07 and ALL-11) and incorporate also IC tester for RAM, CMOS, TTL, MCU programming and a lot of other things . Much lighter wallet and zero problems :(

I have a Sunshine Expro-60 which I purchased 20 years ago. It is very similar to the ALL-03.

It still lives here, as do the other Hi-Lo programmers:

You can write your own device updates. The programming information is publicly available.
