It's not exactly like you might imagine but it is possible
Are you ready to pay those 10k?

Sir ,
We Will Imagine What He Says .If He Can Demonstrate This Here Publically .Take a HDD And Get User Data Out Without Any Other Procedure [ No HOT Swap ] .

Sounds like that you making up rules on the fly, the rules that never existed in the claim on the first place. I can assure you that no hotswap needed but I also don't see a point to continue this conversation. Next time refrain of money bets.

Well,
As You Say [ As Its impossible To Access User Data Area And Take Meaningful Data Out With Access To SA [ Adaptives And Other Lists ,You Folks Should Also Refrain From Bogus Claims Like This ] . There is No Logic For Such a Claim .If You Folks Will Get All The User Data Sectors Out Are You Planning To Reconstruct All Of It Bit By Bit And Spend Ages on It .Some Claims Have To Be Rational .More Then 90% People Cannot even Repair a NVram In The ARM Series And You Folks Have Taken This To New Hights Bravo Awesome .

PS : Doomer i Know You Are A Great And ACE DR Guy Who Knows Lot of Stuff But I Do Not Agree On This One .

Hi boys

can I just get a reply to my question and leave the arguments out?

I know the damage already. A recovery service has identified it. The read/write head is dead. It seems like when initializing the drive the head doesn't respond.

What kind of recovery prices are we looking at for this kind of damage? I was quoted an amount that is something like 3 months pay. I'm willing to send this to another country for recovery if it can be done for less.

Why not take drHDD up on his offer?

It's an absolute bargain at that price, barely covers parts, so snatch his hand off!!

1TB Hitachi, IF HEADS AND ONLY HEADS crystal clear smooth case, 500-800$
depends on how you diagnosed it (or told you about it)

It might be:

A- Heads Stuck
B- Heads Damaged (no surface scratches) - smooth case
C- B- Heads Damaged (surface scratches - dead-end case) or SOME DATA (depends on the lab tech)
D- PCB issue - don`t think so rare on this model

could be anything

good luck

I also don't see why not to go ahead with drHDD's offer, but if you are looking for the alternatives, we can help. Although we'll ask to cover donors, since the drive seems to be opened.

As I said earlier, if you want to handle it stateside, our rate is $650 + cost of parts. Get me a clear picture of the label and I'll get you a parts quote.

Are you willing to pay me 10K of $$$ in USD for demonstration only ?

Pick Hitachi ARM drive (or older), place some data on it then erase all firmware modules out of it. Send the drive to me + 10 000 USD and i will get your data back :)

Spildit ,
I Am Assuming He Is Saying He Does Not Need The SA At All .No SA No Translator ,If No Translator Then Who is Constructing The File system in a Rational Way .Even if The SA Is Erased You Will Still Need Some Kind Of SA To Actually Access User Section . I Do Not Want Any Debate of a Useless Theory .

PS : Btw You Do Not Need Money You Already Have a Lot Of That + [ You Have All It Takes + The Knowledge To Solve All The HDD Related Problems As You Super Specialise In HDD Recovery . ] .Even i Can Demonstrate What You Are Saying ,But Its Not Possible Without a Hot Swap IMHO ,If It Is Then Sorry I Am Not Professional Enough [ As You Always Say To Me ] .

- Hot swap is not needed needed.

- Just a small hint, it's HITACHI/IBM style (NOT A NATIVE 2.5 HITACHI) and that means that with just the PCB you can access to platter content by PBA. Meaning you can write/read on platter SA (and even user data area) by PBA with a working PCB without hot swap.

Thanks Spildit ,
Remember That Old Case i Had Posted Here .I Have To Solve That Too Someday .Will Repost In That ,Still i Have Approx 250 HDD's To Look into .With The Way You Folks Are Talking No Defect Lists Would Be Taken Into Account And Hence Data Accessed From User Area Would Have So So So Many Data Sector Shifts As i stated Before

Any news regarding that "old case" of Hitachi ?

Was the one you were asking for NVRam ? I never figured out if the drive was reading at all to start with ....

Yes Brother ,
For The 2 To 3 Years i Was Off DR Lots of My Friends Gave Me Tonns Of Hard Drive For DR/Repair .Hence i Shuttle Time Between Repair/New Cases .I Will Take That Drive Out and Repost in That Thread .I Think Now its a Open Module Issue In That Drive .

Hi Spildit ,
That Case Was Solved "By What Tool " ,Lol Salvation Data That Was Collecting Dust in My Drawer .I Had Taken a Donor NVRAM ,Then i Had Access to SA .I Could Read NVRC NVRAM Module i took so called native NVRam from there And Still No Luck ,Then i Fired My Salvation Data Tool And In The NVRAM Tab It Has a 1 Button NVRAM Repair Function i do not know what the hell it did but voila all data back .It would be nice to understand the logic it used for that repair [ Seems Interesting ] .But Why i am Posting This Today is That i Got a Crazy Case ,Full Shorted PCB even RAM Chip is Blasted .Its a Hitachi HDS721050CLA362 .First The Client Gave It To Me Using a Completely Different Board ,I Checked The ROM/NVRAM And It Was For a Different Drive ,No Clicking And Hence i Am Assuming HSA is Not Gone .So i Asked For The Native Board And When i Got It i Took The ROM/NVRAM Chip Out It Was a 25FU206 And Installed It On a Functional Board .To My Dismay That Board Did Not Go Into Ready Status in PC3k .Took The ROM/NVRAM Chip Out And Tried To Read It In My Elnec Programmer .Programmer Tells Me 1 And 6 Pin Are Bad Contact [ I Am Assuming This ROM/NVRAM Is Fried ] . Is There A Chance of This Kinda Recovery In This ARM Series With Complete Damaged ROM / NVRAM [ Both Inside 1 Chip ] .
