If you're a nice guy, then you won't be surprised to find that there are others just like you. Nice work, drHDD.

Sorry, it was just a guess. During working hours? ;)

Ha-ha, Should I give you my manager number? It's look like you have something to tell him.

Just another guess: it wasn't a head problem...
:)

do not misunderstand, i am not against competition, just against stupidity.
to properly treat a head problem just takes a way more than 200 in Canada. It might be a good price in Rus or some similar country...
Even if you don't pay any taxes (which i suppose not the case) it just dosn't fit the math.
or perhaps i should give up doing dr since i am doing something wrong or missing some really obvious point. :)

Is there something really difficult? How much time you need to exchange heads? Tell me your math.

yeah, it takes only 5 minutes. you are right.
so 200 for 5 minutes of work is quite reasonable. sorry for bothering.

For those who read this thread:

If one's doing dr, he/she has to pay for at least the following things:
place: rent or buy
power consumption, and other expenses related to the place
equipment: Clean working area, tools, PCs, proper cloning tools (yeah they cost quite a lot if u don't use ddrescue only), Firmware manipulation tools, Software tools, and keep all these in a working condition (updates), etc
accounting
taxes
wages if u have employees
the list is long, only concentrated on the most important stuff.

and finally you get what's left after paying all the above.

this is where the math fails at $200. If somebody tried a head replacement on a modern seagate, would be surprised what comes after the 5 minutes of the actual routine of the replacement itself.

Here is the ST2000DM001 that I got to assess today. Not quite what the client and I was looking for.

Reminds me of a recent seagate drive I had... Let it go over the weekend the PC3k didn't stop the drive when it didn't become ready during recovery. Well, head failed, hit the platter and sat... all weekend. Running... You tell me what happened next D:

Either way these damn Seagate DM series are a huge problem. Lost count after 15 over the past few weeks of them coming in. Good luck!

Also, op, the drive looks like it needs to have its translator regenerated.

This is another reason why I almost never use the power switch function of the cloning tools (PC3K, HRT, Etc)...

If the drive gets stuck in bsy because heads hit the platter and start to damage the platter then the cloning tools might power off/on the drive over and over again, making the heads to scrap the platter non-stop.

It's allways a good idea to keep an eye on a drive that is going to take some considerable amount of time to clone. If you must to leave it there for days to clone then you might want to connect it to external power supply (instead of powering it up with PC3K). There are drives that you don't want to be powered off-on several times if a head ends up hitting the platter.

I completely agree.

Did you try to look for power settings in pc3k? I don't have those problems with power on and off. And it's good to be able to repower drive remotely.
