If you would have need to rescue 30GB or more - which now days almost everyone who sends their drive to a pro DR firm/specialist (not to mention RAID arrays) needs a huge amount of data - it wouldn't last that long.

3 GB was all her personal data, except one videofile.
She studied and wrote documents and then there was lesson which had been recorded. She received that video from her classmate and rest of the stuff she received from me. She was very happy to get all her files. She didn't ask about windows pagefile :D .

But I understand you. That was my point also at beginning, that ALL data should be rescued. So wrong I was. That was the thing that I learned but seems that some of you haven't still got it. Maybe that makes me even more experienced in some way. :D

Hi! I am Michel, I am new to data recovery I have small knowledge about hard drives but right now i would like to ask for your help for my cases:

I would like to recover the data of 2.5' sata toshiba mk8046gsx (80gb) old hdd.

base on my observation, the hdd are not detected, there is clicking sound inside. i look at the pcb at the back there is no sign of burn or short. i know that the data is intact in the platter.

here is my plan: i would like to make a platter swap and transfer this platter to a good hard drives to extract the data.

here are my questions:
1. is it necessary to have the same brand, model, sn and capacity for both hard drives?
2. we have ordered last week the platter exchanger tool from dolphin. When i successfully swap the platter from hdd, what is the proper software i used to extract the data fast?
3. is there a program/software to renew the firmware of a hard drives?

thank you. your answer is highly appreciated.
