If the hdd is identifying correctly its model ( ST1000DM003 ) does it mean that it can correctly read the SA ? So the wrong size would be caused by media cache or other failures ?
Also, just something I remembered : @OP, which brand is the motherboard this hdd was being used in ? Could this be caused by that Gigabyte Motherboard Size Bug already discussed here ? Can you test with MHDD or Hdat and inform if there is mention of DCO / HPA present ?

Si como dices el disco arranca, emite algunos sonidos y se para es casi seguro que tiene los cabezales dañados y no hay nada que yo pueda hacer en ese caso. No sé en que provincia vives, yo vivo en Cienfuegos, puedes darme tu email o telefono por PM y te contacto.
Tampoco creo que sea tanta la ignorancia de tu jefe para saber que no tienes culpa.
