The ATHENA drives suffer with a common failure, which is firmware damage, and is common in ALL slimline maxtors (ARESC64, N40P, ATHENA) most common reason for failure is the GLIST but the firmware is made of many critical modules any of which can be responsible.

Regardless of any software and firmware fixes available on the internet the only real way to repair this drive is to use PC3000. If you do not have PC3000 or the knowledge behind using it then you need to send your drive to a specialist.

If you intend on repairing the disk, be warned that you will very likely have many bad sectors after repair and is recommended NEVER to use disk for storage again!!

I dont agree with you hddguy, that is why all hdd have a G (growing) list.

I think U should at least consider HddGuy's advice, I think he's got some experience in this field.
I wouldn't say that tool is the only one able to help in this situation, even though I use the same.
