I know that I beat the odds on this and promise to have a backup system inplace in the future <grin>. Plus I really scored brownie points with my wife.

So what is it about the drive that makes hot swapping a possible option?

I have a Maxtor DiamondMax Pus 9 60GB ATA/1333 HDD
Code: YAR41BW0
SN: Y21AM9GC
Made in: Singapore

After unscrewing the top I could not remove it. The sides come up but there seams to be something in the middle stuck to the top preventing me from removing the top. I do not want to use force unless advised.
I purchased another unit with all the same of the above but the Code is: YAR41BWO. Can I use this units head and or mother board? Does the B vs V make an important difference?

HELP! I have very important data on this drive....

Board: no, without modification (the 60 GB have YAR41VW0, not BW0, this is one special, recertified drive, with special parts.)
Head: no, without cleanroom, and needed skill for successfully (select and) replace it.

I suggest, if the data is important, try to find a pro close to you!

Where are you based?

Regards,
Janos

There is no need to open a top lid on a drive, unless you know exact problem.
Just by looking inside you won't figureout your problem, but you will be very close to loosing everything that stored on a drive.
