This is a "me-too" ! I have the same Maxtor diamond max plus 8, 40 G, as the original poster and failed under me *last night*. Now it's become "N40P" with capacity LBA=0 and of course the BIOS, nor even MHDD program can't see anything on it :-(

Please someone post a link to the miracle program "HDD repair 2.0" if possible ! I can't afford to spend money on recovery, so I'm willing to try anything short of physically accessing the disk internals - which is definitely over my capabilities...

Remark : the label on my disk says FW code: NAR61590. Can I find it on this site ? On Maxtor's ?

Many many spasi'bo

Hi All, HELP!!! What Am I doing Wrong???

I have this Maxtor N40P problem, (DiamondMax 8 Plus 40Gig Code: NAR61Ea0 B8FED) , reconized in BIOS as N40P, but Windows doesn't see this drive. MAXTOR/SEAGATE utilitiues see the drive as N40P, but fails short / long test.

I have a working version of HDD Repair Version 2.0, and put the N40P in Safe Mode on Secondary IDE Primary.
The software sees the N40P, but I can't see any G or P list.

So What I did is purchased a new (exactly the same HDD, same code, serial etc) and placed it in Safe mode, and was able to extract and save the BIN and LDR fle ( I used the "BUILD" button as well as Read

Now, I believe the plan is to load the files from the working HDD to the faulty N40P, but here's where I get stuck on what exactly needs to be done....

Do I Write the LDR file and BIN file to the faulty N40P using HDD Ver2? Do I need to recalibrate?

I know I'm really close to fixing this HDD, so your help will b egreatly appreciated. I have MSN/yahoo, so if someone can walk me through this, it would be awesome.

Thank you in advance.... :(

One wrong click with this "Miracle Program" will make the recovery more difficult or unrecoverable. Use at your own risk. Personally I would never use this program on any customers hard drive.

You are really close to loose your data, instead, that seems not important.

cookie: there are many softwares around that "repair" hard drives, ie. make them usable again (although why anyone would spend 4 hours making a 40 or 80Gb drive useful when a new 250Gb costs less than a 100 US$ is beyond me).

Be careful "repairing" (this is what you appear to be doing) as what I *think* you should be doing is "recovery"

Hi Mediaman, my apologies for using the wrong terminology.
I'm trying to recover the data, not necessarily repair the drive. Pictures of our newborn are in this drive. Would like to recover them if possible.

I know it can be done, i just don't (can't) afford to shell out that cash to get it done professionaly. If you have kids, then you know how expensive baby formula and diapers are. Every penny counts.

I'd be willing to compensate via paypal if i can get someone to walk me through the steps in recovering the data.

Thanks

Dear,
I did not make my comment to hurt you, i did it to alert you. sorry if you hurt for my speech.

An Example: Suppose, someone is facing problem in his heart. What should you do? If you try to solve yourself or by a non-professional, then most chance is react which is not recoverable by the top Doctor of the world. You r going to do the same job with your HD without a pro. Never recoverable may be.
I think, you understand.
sorry again as u r hurt for my statement. now, its your option how to proceed next.

Hi Shahij: no worries. I understand that you were trying to warn me about the potential danger.
This is one of the reasons I came to this forum, as I did not want to experiment with this hard drive and then make it un-recoverable.

Looking forward to any help available.

Thank you.

To cut a long story short ( I am a farm boy so I have to be practical.... ) : how much can you spend in $ , EUR or your currency , including shipment ? What's your location ? It's so simple.... let's make demand and offer meet.

Your case requires attention of experienced person.
First of all, you have to diagnose exact problem, which caused a failure of the drive.
You need at least some basic equipment/software in order to fix your particular problem.
I don't think you will find a person, who is willing to share it, because the price for such thing is very high.

I would recommend to ask fellow forumers, who is willing to do it for a fair/reasonable price and I am sure you will find one here.

You have some type of physical damage to a drive, which can't be resolved remotely.

Hello Hardrivespecialist.
I am awaiting offers.
I truly was hoping someone would have walked me through the process and let me know (based on what I read of of the HardDiskrepair V2.0) if it is an easy fix, or requires "true" professional help.

I've heard of these "professionals" simply swapping out controller cards and charging $500....
I've tried swapping controller card with same type..but still N40P.

As I have mentioned before, you have a problem with module in your drive.
Usualy they get damaged due to failing heads or many bad sectors, which caused by failing heads or a scratch on a surface of the disk.

pro does not charge high only for swapping PCB. they charge for a lot of case...
1. They stores a lot of HDD which not available in the market, for using data recovery purpose to upcoming customers. money is invested there.
2. in most of the hdd, only pcb replace does not work. need extra job to perform.
3. a same model hdd have various pcb , but only one pcb is donor where all pcb will not work with one. and so on.....
not possible to finish writing.........
