I use vertical. ESD safe and soft ESD table mat on all the work area. Even the floor is ESD safe. The reverse of the floor is conductive and grounded. One more paranoid ..

From what i can see - both types are suitable. I'll get the one which is 'better value' for the same size i guess.

If you use a hood similar to what I use ( http://www.bakerco.com/products/SterilGARD_HE/ ), you don't need face mask, hair hats etc. The only part of your body that is inside the clear air area is your hands. You would ideally want to ensure that no skin is exposed as it flakes.

For horizontal laminar flow I recommend the EdgeGARD:

For vertical laminar flow use the SterilGARD (as linked in the above quote)

Both will offer product protection with laminar flow. The SterilGARD has the benefit of personnel protection with a glass sash, and environmental protection with HEPA filtered exhaust. If personnel & environmental protection are not required (just product) use the EdgeGARD, its much more economical.

Anybody know of any places in Australia to buy a laminar flow cabinet? Most of the places i found using google appear to be a re-seller, importing it from overseas once you order. Nobody seems to have even 1 in stock.

I bought from edwardsco.com.au who are the agent in sydney for biocabinets, found out later that if I had bought directly from biocabinets I would have saved some money. All the best.

purplegoat - Thanks for the details. I'll give them a call to see if they have any for under $5000. I checked on Ebay today - there are about 20 from international sellers, can't find any on ebay.com.au in Australia, not even 1.
