Re: Another Seagate 7200.11 Issue - Please Help Me Diagnose

Hi everyone,

I had the same problem with my Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB SATA drive. Due to the faulty SD15 firmware, one day, the drive was just no longer being recognized by my BIOS. A few days ago I successfully fixed the problem and all of my data is now safe and sound. :D

Since I still have the customized cable that I used to solve this issue, I am offering to fix anyone's Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 drive for $30.

You can even ship your drive to me if you want to. Oh and I guess that it goes without saying, that if for some reason I couldn't fix it, you don't have to pay me.

And if drive has a different problem and you F*ck it up, how much are you willing to pay a customer for lost data?

Wow. Well, the cliche of insecure little boys is really being lived up to today isn't it? Such vitriol for a polite and simple offer of a simple fix.

I'm merely offering to do for anyone else what worked for me on the first attempt, if your drive is bricked because of the firmware issue. The extraordinarily low level of risk is entirely yours to either take or leave, as I would and will explain to anyone who contacts me. This offer is for people who don't have a great deal of money and don't feel like doing it themselves (which would have entailed precisely the same amount of risk). I could of course charge $700 per drive, which would allow me to have a big enough cash pot to pay out for any screw ups, but that would take away from the little guy who couldn't afford $700. It's called trade off (value for safety net in this case) and it's very important for people to have such options available to them should they need them.

Now, bring on the pathetic, face saving, pride salvaging, denial based, group therapeutic replies. I'll read and respond to every one of them.

You want to recover all 7200.11 drives ?

Who would trust their precious data any recovered data, or even their drive. With someone who has repair one or two drives and has very limited capabilities for any other encountered problems that could appear.

DIY for whatever everyone has an inbuilt need to learn, its human nature to do so.

Imagine without intelligence, learning or knowledge we could all have been lemmings :buhahahaha:

Maybe you should buy a few more of those 7200.11's. Since if they go wrong (always do) you seem sure you can fix them all.

If he/she gives REGULAR INVOICE and is a regular activity, it's only a data safety problem. Seagate does it for FREE and - nothing personal - they know their stuff and are able to deal with possible further problems. The same for us : if I have a case where I am not 100% secure or don't have a specific tool for many reasons, I outsource. With regular documents, regular billing and regular taxes payment where applicable. As an example, I have experience on older drives no longer supported or SAMSUNG drives that have little or no support on commercial DR tools. It's up to you what you do and how you do it. Of course with 2 posts and a few days registration, don't expect red stripe - especially with the last post. Maybe better luck with Ebay ?

A little risky isn't it?

Just because you fixed ONE drive doesn't make you an expert.

Good luck to you if you find enough suckers willing to risk their valuable data.

These cases aren't always straightforward, read up, in this forum. Granted regular SD15 drives are "usually" easy, assuming they have the known firmware ussies, but not always, then there's HPxx and DExx firmware drives to tackle! Oh, and ES drives than inhibit terminal access.

For me, anyone who is prepared to gamble their lifetimes photos (or whatever) on a $30 punt deserves all they get!

Just my two cents.
