WD Elements 2.5" 500 GB can't find data

Hi guys,

Just got a similar HDD, but it is My Passport, though it is doing soft ticking noises.
Any insights to this problem?
Does a head problem is common on these drives?

A, Ticking sounds related to weak/dead heads
B, not a problem if ur drive never felt OR had some power issues

I know that elements are not supposed to be encrypted but
its quite weird that the Initio chip was on the PCB - probably didn't use it though.

Initio makes many USB-SATA bridge ICs. Only some incorporate AES encryption.

For example, an INIC-1607E does, but an INIC-1607P does not.

FYI. most of them are: 1607E

Seagate also uses Initio chips, but none of them are INIC-1607E (AFAIK).

Initio chips are used in a lot of generic products as well.

u mean the Buffalo FOR SURE & it is again FOR SURE encrypted my dear

i remember i did post a while ago about this. but not same scenario as WD Smartware
