The easiest way is to put it back and look in the BIOS setup whether is there any security features enabled (including setup password). Disable all and I think your hard drive will be freed. Otherwise read this thread or spend more time searching net (it might be not worth though).

But i dont have that laptop anymore , i just know it was a toshiba satellite.

@iplayball
You have done the harder part and dumped the modules correctly so its just the easy bit now!

By the way they don't look locked to me but if you don't care about the data then use the "master password" which is intact on both drives. The master password is also in this thread and in others as well!

Are you accepting the risks involved with DIY?

Your dump has the master password in plain text you just need to know what to do with it:

1) Download "MHDD v4.5" http://hddguru.com/download/software/mh ... 4.5iso.zip
2) Burn boot cd from the ISO image
3) Boot to the MHDD CD
4) You will see a list of harddisk, select a harddisk you want to unlock
5) Type "unlock" and reply "1" for master password

6) Enter the master password. “WDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCW” without the quotes
(If it is wrong, ERR will turns red on the top of the screen, and You have 4 more tries before it powercycle the disk)

7) If it is correct, type "DISPWD" and reply "1"
(There will be a warning if your disk is still locked)

8) Retype the master password again and your disk is unlocked!
(ERR will turn red if the password wrong)

9) Type exit and press "ctrl + alt+ del" to reboot

I've tried similar instructions but not quite exactly yours.
After i got the 22.bin file, i used a hex app and i looked for the the passwords.
I then booted up with hiren boot cd-mini xp and launched the victoria app, selected the hard drive, and tried to unlock with what i thought were the passwords but to no avail.

thanks loki i will try your instructions and report back, also thanks dick for your reply as well.

Regarding MHDD make sure your drive is not connected using a usb caddy or usb cable ie use the SATA connection.
Also BIOS might need changing to compatible or IDE not Native or AHCI. If set to Native or AHCI then the drive will not be recognised by MHDD

the piece of info that is almost ALWAYS missing is what happened to the drive up to this point what is the history on the drive ? Most never had a password on them or the WDC default and some firmware failure is causing the drive to now be "protected" or seem to be password protected

loki,

It worked man!!! Thanks so much!!
Just one question though, looking back at the 22.bin file, how'd you know that WDC... was the pw?
Is the pw always found within 130h-140h?

I'm not loki but I'll give you a reply...

pioneer wrote:same password ?

Not always - often the software/firmware which sets the user password, also changes the master password (otherwise there is a hole in the (limited) security).

Please see the posting by networks 2 posts above yours and, as he suggests, explain the history to your situation, in order for readers to better understand what causes may apply in your case.

Hi pioneer,

The MHDD walk through post only works if & when you have found out the master password on that drive.
Unfortunetly in your case you say it didnt work which means the master password is different or you could have other issues?

Listen to Vulcan as he has a wealth on knowledge.

Another option is to take it to a DR company with the right tools who will be able to remove the password for a cost & proof of ownership. (if the data on the drive warrents it, if not buy a new drive?)

Otherwise you will need to do a lot more reseach

Thanks for those kind words, loki. :) I referred the OP to network's posting just as I don't want you or other members to waste your time being asked questions about passwords, if (for example) the OP never actually set a password, and this problem started after a power cut

Hi Ioki,

Sorry, I followed the instructions to finish (step 9). I typed in step 6 master password (WDCWDC....)the first time I came ERR and the second time I did not appeared red ERR. Passed over this step with your master password (WDCWDC. ..)

I followed the steps to finish but after reboot HDD was still blocked.

Hard drive is on SATA slot, have made certain settings in bios, I missing something?

Thank you,
Pioneer

Hi,

Firstly your assuming the master password is WDC etc
You need to find out what the master password is first & then do the walk through.

Secondly other posters here did the hard work & went through using MHDD & script/batch file to get the a 22.bin file which had the master password in.
You need to do this if your going to try DIY (accepting the risks of DIY of cause?)
