If it's not possible, then just use the test points on the top side. The test points in each pair are in close proximity to each other. It doesn't matter if the two Tx test points are not adjacent to the two Rx test points. Just keep each pair of conductors the same length as much as possible.

Essentially that is the solution that everybody tries to use for WD PCBs. And with short enough wires it will work.
What was your point of denying it?

How does that rat's nest fit into your points about transmission line reflections, line impedances, etc? Looks to me that you've got a pretty nice antenna / RF transmitter there. But don't take my word for it -- I'm not an "expert."

I think the cables are too long and unshielded to work with some [other] WD drives.

Hello friends!
I have a case with this kind of drive (WD30NMVW-11C3NS2)
I think the drive has a slow responding problem, but i cant access to SA.
I converted the USB PCB to SATA (yes, is removed capacitors), but now the drive stays BSY forever even when i short TV9-TV10, or separate HSA contact.

Here it is a picture of my USB-SATA conversion work.


Has anyone a deal what did i wrong?

I've only done about 5 so far and all have been straightforward, converted to SATA by means of 2060-800022-000 and then imaged them. I haven't had the joy of one staying BSY yet.

I lie, one of them did involve a headswap.... the worst headswap of my life. That post is right in the way of the millions heads, really was the most frustrating half hour of my life. It worked out, but I'd rather hang myself than swap heads on one of those again.

Maybe my method is different, but I've done several head swaps on these with no problems.

I don't think so. I don't think you would even be able to tell the drive is in busy mode if you soldered it wrong, but you should get a second opinion on this.
