Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Anyone? Come on guys, I don't have the time to look at the problem myself because of my bachelor-thesis...that's a little bit more important at the moment, but I'd like to solve this problem rather sooner than later ^^ otherwise I've got to wait til I have some free time again...

@Moltke: huh, did I miss something? oO as far as I knew, zu didn't support 2.5inch drives, I read it several times in here (even superloadedcat posted it at the top of this page). Did they change something or am I just wrong?^^

superloadedcat wrote:zu doesn't support 2.5 inch drives.

Sorry, you are WRONG.
_zu.betta.050911.rar
DOES unlock 2.5" drives

.
Example:
2.5" Toshiba MK1031GAS (100GB PATA) with 44 to 40 pin adapter on an ASUS P4B533 mainboard primary master configured.
(took less than a second

- this mainboard cannot boot from USB, i used a floppy drive

).
So please stop posting this

so there!

Okayokayokay, I was wrong, I'm sorry
As I already mentioned, I don't really have the time to test it in detail at the moment (stupid thesis!). But as far as I got it, I have to mount the hdd to the primary or secondary port and then let zu do the magic? Because I already tried something like that, in fact I plugged it into the very first sata-port (I don't really know which other 'primary' I should take) and booted zu from a floppy. It didn't report any error, but even after 2 hours (as displayed) there was no unlock done. I guess I did something wrong...? Sometimes I'm a real derp, when it comes to hardware x)
July 26th, 2013, 10:27
well, even without any drive other than the floppy attached, zu doesn't report any error...I'm getting a headache...

Hey guys, long-time lurker first time posting here, though. So much good info on this board, it's just too bad I haven't had much to contibute, yet. Here's the 22.bin file for an old friend of mine's laptop to which he forgotten his password, for. It was set with PhoenixBIOS on his gateway D620 to a WD1600BEVT.
I've seen alot of "please find my password!!!111" stuff on here, and I feel a bit bad for joining in the fray, but I feel like I have done all I can on my own, to prevent myself from doing this =(
My offset looks a bit goofy compared to other bin files I've seen on here, and I've tried saving that selection with UltraEdit and unlocking with Victoria, but no dice. I'm wondering if I'm just selecting too much, or just too far beyond my scope. Thanks for the help guys, I'm glad to finally be a part of the forum ^_^

Sorry I guess I need more activity to reply to PM's, are you saying to use MHDD instead of Victoria to input the hex? The selection I have highlighted, converted to ASCII, is apparently 20304050607000000000000, which doesn't appear to be anything. Most other tables I've looked at, I've been able to spot the 01 07 00 header and see how a key was discerned, but mine seems a bit odd.
Using tables like this one

Am I headed in the right direction, here?

MHDD info for unlocked drive.

Anybody?

Hello
Recently i bought on ebay locked, 3.5 inch, 1TB HDD WD1002faex.
The drive was described as locked, as a result of removing it from LG recorder.
The price was low, so I bid and won (30$).
The drive is in good shape, no SMART Errors and about 2 years of service.
I was trying to remove the password, and once I managed it, by typing in MHDD default WD password WDCWDCWDC...
Then I tried to partition the drive, but after making first partition, parted magic started to see the drive as locked.
Now i know I was moving to fast, without sufficient knowledge.
So the drive went into locked state, but now it is MAX security level and the default master password ins`t working any more.
ZU, MHDD with scripts and hdderase doesn't work too.
There aren't any important data on HDD, I just wish to use It, because it is a fine piece of HDD. (WD black series)
I was trying to run it in safe mode, by jumper all pins 1=2, 3=4, 5=6, 7=8, but then the drive just doesn't start and it's invisible in BIOS.
Can anybody advice me, how to obtain user password from this HDD ?
