early sign of head failue? (mhdd screenshot)

What do you guys think about this? To me it looks like an early version of the alternating rows of greens/reds/AMNFs. This pattern repeats on this particular hard drive about once per screen worth of MHDD scan. My personal inclination is to go ahead and replace the hard drive pre-emptively.

What is the model The picture is unclear may be HTSxxxx ? The "pattern" may be perfectly normal. In fact the different blocks are >10 ms but below 50. What if they are 12 ms ? This could be perfectly average access time. Try scanning a similar drive.

Scan that exact page of sectors a few times and see if the pattern stays the same or jumps around. Otherwise it looks perfectly normal. Personally, I wouldn't wish a Hitachi on my worst enemy.

Yes, HTS421280H9AT00.

I was watching the scan go by and when it would hit these "stripes" it was visibly slower than on the rest of the drive. I'll try thatdellguy's suggestion when I get back to work on Tuesday.

Ok, and when entering 'these' blocks you hear like heads seeking? In that case, I solved usually with a selfscan. Be careful with it.
