Hi,
I have Western digital WD3200BEVT (SATA 320 GB) hard disk drive in my laptop. one week ago, It suddenly started making noise as if it was stopping after every ~3 seconds and starting again. The HDD light of my laptop started blinking.

I was looking for HDD of same series. But I couldn't find that series. So I bought the later version.

old HDD model is - WD3200BEVT-22A23T0
circuit no.- 2060-771672-001 REVP1
New HDD model is - WD3200BEVT-00A23T0
circuit no.- 2060-771672-004 REVA

Now, I changed the circuit and put the new HDD's circuit into old one. Then I connected it to laptop using USB enclosure. And the clicking sound is gone! It's running smoothly. But I can not hear head's (reader's) moving sound. Now, I connected that HDD using USB enclosure and it is recognized as "Generic Mass storage device" by windows xp. But I can not see the partitions. Also it is not in shown in disk management.

I connected to the SATA port of the laptop and rebooted. Then BIOS says, "primary hard disk drive error".

Now, how can I solve this problem? How can I make the HDD recognized by PC? How will I recover the data?

Is there any way to change the firmware of the HDD circuit so that it would work with this drive?

You need to try writing the original ROM from the failed PCB to the new one, then retry and see if it resolves the situation.

The tools to do this are expensive commercial tools but you may find a reasonably priced service that can carry this out near you.
