I have a seagate Barracuda 7200.9 st3300622A drive and one of the chips is getting real hot, the drive itself does not want to be recognised by the PC but when I hold the drive in my hand I can feel it spining but it is not recognised and the smaller of the big chips is getting hot so I switch it off. I was wondering if this is an electronic problem on the card on the drive itself and could I purchase another card from some place to fit to it to recover the data that is on it. Thank you in advance for your help and support if any one has any ideas id appreciate your info'. Cheers hope this makes sense as I am a bit of a novice at hard drive issues but learning every day. In the photo attached the chip with the white dot is getting hot I cant keep my finger on it so turn the drive off.

your looking at a motor problem with the drive
or possible the board has gone open circuit

your only way of checking is by getting the same board of your drive
and then seeing if the ic is running cold

I suspect a motor or bearing issue. No way for me to know for sure, but I suspect a new board won't help. It's probably worth a try anyway.

It's the combo motor/VCM driver: option 1) it is burned, option 2) - and the drive emits a buzz or some faint buzz and clicking sound while attempting to start - you have a seized motor or head stiction.

Hi, complete newb here. I'm having the SAME EXACT issue as jonesythebox described. SAME chip, same sound, same drive (almost). I know that several answers have been submitted, but can I ask:

what is the likelyhood of recovering data off a drive with this issue??

It seems like I have a better chance of peddling fire in hell. ;-)

AND, where would i find a new board??

Click on 'solve issue' :-D ... Start a new thread instead of queuing, AND go to the market section of the forum, or try google, or ebay.

Thank you BlackST, but i feel short at google and ebay, and my "magic button" subscription ran out three days ago (and you KNOW what you have to do to get that back....ugh).

That's why I'm here.

I'm not sure what starting a new thread will do at HDDGuru.com (considering the topic is the same). I usually have much luck by starting a completely new topic at Sarcasm.com & FlameAnyoneWithAQuestion.com, but at hddguru.com it made sense to group my problem with someone elses. ;-)

Thanks again.

I have a PCB of the same f/w and same chip # (Assuming your is 100367049).

But it's off a 400Gb model, and Site Code AMK (Singapore, your is Thailand)

You WILL have to copy the ROM info off, or transplant the ROM itself to stand a chance.

Always assuming also, that just the PCB is at fault.

If you're willing to ship to UK, then I can check it all properly, or if you wanna gamble with your data, I'll sell you the PCB.

PM me or msn me if interested.

Cheers

Sean
