Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160gb - head problem

November 18th, 2008, 3:53

Hi guys. Customer of mine had his drive die on him. I was able to see drive hooked up to my system and started to ghost it, but it gave an error before it was done, and then refused to work. I powered it off and back on, and got a dreaded knock.

PCB is clean, I really doubt its the problem. It is not being detected by the system, keeps scanning/knocking. I've tried using GetBackData, but nothing as drive is not detected

I don't have a clean room to do this in, it looks like I'm better off passing this down to a pro? Or is there anything I can try? I did try putting it in the freezer for a bit (not sure if its a myth, but read it in a few places). Also, if anyone has suggestions for a LEGIT place, maybe around Los Angeles, it would be great too. How much a job like this go for?

Thanks!

As the drive is not detected and also clicking- missing landing or broken head. meet a pro. BAD SA could be also. Diagnose is the issue for confirming
